Founded in 1959 by Mary M. Gooley on behalf of the Rochester Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF), the Mary M. Gooley Hemophilia Center (the Center) serves people affected by bleeding disorders and other inherited medical conditions. The Center was one of the first NHF chapters chartered outside of New York City, and was the first free-standing comprehensive care clinic in the nation. The Center is an independent not-for-profit organization governed by a community board of directors. Since its founding, it has operated within or adjacent to Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY.
The Center boasts a robust staff of hematologists and other specialized staff knowledgeable about and experienced in the care of people affected by bleeding disorders. The Center provides means to improve the lives of those affected by bleeding disorders and iron overload, including world-class treatment, education, advocacy, research and supportive programs. We believe educated, motivated patients make the best partners and encourage people we serve to care for themselves to the greatest extent possible. We strive for a world in which independence, wellness and hope flourish among people affected by bleeding disorders and iron overload.
